Orthopedic Issues in the Neo

While some breeds suffer from conditions due to small or malformed bones Neapolitans, and other large and giant breeds, usually suffer from conditions related to rapid growth. These conditions include but are not limited to:  canine hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, osteochondrosis, panosteitis and hypertrophic osteodystrophy. AKC Registration

All of our dogs are AKC registered. All of our puppies come with AKC registration. Pet-only dogs will come with limited AKC registration. Limited registration means the dog is registered with the AKC but no litters produced from that dog are eligible for registration and a dog with limited registration is ineligible to compete in a breed competition in an AKC dog show. It is eligible to be entered events such as: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing and Agility. What are the common health issues in the Neapolitan Mastiff?

In a recent poll the top 5 health concerns among Neapolitan Mastiff breeders included: Cardiac: Dilated Cardiomyopathy Hip Dysplasia: Elbow Dysplasia: Bloat Prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid: Cherry Eye Autoimmune Deficiency/Disease: Skin: (Demodicosis) Although at BluHouse Mastini we perform health tests on all of our dogs to try to minimize the chances your puppy will suffer from one of these conditions, we cannot completely prevent all of these conditions. Most giant breed dogs are predisposed to bloat and many orthopedic conditions and Neapolitans specifically appear to have an increase predilection for cherry eye and autoimmune conditions.
